Dear Brothers and Sisters,
We are entering a new liturgical year as well as a new liturgical season this weekend. Advent is perhaps the most countercultural of all the seasons of the Church year, especially when we consider events like "Black Friday" and "Cyber Monday."
The Catholic Church explains the season this way: "Advent has a two-fold character: as a season to prepare for Christmas when Christ's !irst coming is remembered; as a season when that remembrance directs the mind and heart to await Christ's Second Coming at the end of time. Advent is thus a period for devout and joyful expectation."
Hmmm…. a period for "devout and joyful expectation" and a season to prepare ourselves to Christ's Second Coming…Is that what Advent is for you? Devout? Joyful? Preparing for Christ's Second Coming? It is so easy for the noisy expectations of the world to be in con!lict with the beauty and serenity of our faith. It can be so difficult for faith to win out and to let the celebration of Christmas inspire us to become saints!
Because Advent must look different and include silence, our religious education department has come up with a beautiful way to help you focus this Advent on Our Lord and His love for you. The idea is meant to help you with that stillness and silence. It is called the Advent Technology Challenge and is posted in this bulletin. Part of the distracting noisiness is the constant technological interruptions—texts, Instagram, Facebook, video games, television to name a few. So the challenge invites you to use less technology in order to have more room for Christ in your hearts and minds this season. I am certainly going to do it and I challenge you to do the same!

Queridos hermanos y hermanas:
Estamos entrando en un nuevo año litúrgico, así como un nuevo tiempo litúrgico de este fin de semana. Adviento es quizás el más contracultural de todas las estaciones del año de la Iglesia, sobre todo si tenemos encuenta eventos como el "Viernes Negro" y "Cyber Monday".
La Iglesia Católica explica la temporada de esta manera: "El Adviento tiene un doble carácter: como unatemporada para prepararse para la Navidad, cuando la primera venida de Cristo se recuerda; como unaestación en la que el recuerdo dirige la mente y el corazón a la espera de segunda venida de Cristo alfinal de los tiempos. Adviento es, pues, un periodo de expectativa devota y alegre ".
Hmmm .... un período de "expectativa devota y alegre" y una temporada para prepararnos a la Segunda Venida de Cristo ... ¿Es eso l o que el Advi ento es para usted? Devota? Al egre? Preparaci ón para l a Segunda Venida de Cristo? Es tan fácil para las expectativas ruidosos del mundo para estar en conflicto con la belleza y la serenidad de nuestra fe. Puede ser tan difícil para la fe de ganar fuera y dejar que la celebración de la Navidad nos inspiran a ser santos!
Debido a que el Adviento debe tener un aspecto diferente e incluir silencio, nuestro departamento de educaciónreligiosa ha llegado con una hermosa manera de ayudarle a concentrarse en este Adviento en Nuestro Señor y su amor por ti. La idea tiene la intención de ayudar con esa quietud y el silencio. Se llama la Tecnología Desafío Adviento y se ha escri to en este bol etín. Parte del rui do di strae es l a interrupci ones textos constante tecnológica, Instagram, facebook, videojuegos, televisión por nombrar algunos. Así que el reto le invita a utilizar menos la tecnología con el fin de tener más espacio para Cristo en sus corazones y mentes en esta temporada. Estoy seguro que va a hacerlo y te reto a que hagas lo mismo!
