Merry Christmas!

With great joy and deep affection, I greet you this week as we enter into the Octave Solemnities of the Nativity of Our Lord. This is truly my favorite season of the year. This is a time when the Church is filled with light, hope, and the tender closeness of God made flesh. Every Christmas, my heart is moved again by the same wonder that God has come to dwell among us! This is the time to contemplate the prologue of the Gospel of John to open for us the mystery of who this Child truly is.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Before creation, before time, before anything existed, Christ already was. He is the eternal Word made flesh. In an overwhelming display of humility, He becomes a child. A bundle of joy that is approachable, vulnerable and utterly given. He comes into the messiness of human life and at a time of darkness so that nothing in our lives is beyond His reach. Every joy, every fear, every wound, every hope, He enters it all. During this Christmas season I want to invite each of you to allow the light of Christ to shine into the deepest places of your life. Let Him speak His peace into your heart. Let Him heal what is broken. Let Him renew your hope. The Child in the manger is God-with- us and He comes for you. May the Christ Child bless your homes with peace, fill your hearts with joy, and surround your families with His tender love. May His light guide your steps in the days ahead, and may His presence be your strength always.

¡Feliz Navidad!

Con gran alegría y profundo afecto, los saludo esta semana al entrar en la Octava Solemnidad de la Natividad de Nuestro Señor. Esta es verdaderamente mi época favorita del año. Es un tiempo en el que la Iglesia se llena de luz, esperanza y la tierna cercanía de Dios hecho carne. Cada Navidad, mi corazón se conmueve de nuevo por la misma maravilla de que Dios haya venido a morar entre nosotros. Este es el momento de contemplar el prólogo del Evangelio de Juan para que nos revele el misterio de quién es realmente este Niño.

“En el principio ya existía aquel que es la Palabra, y aquel que es la Palabra estaba con Dios y era Dios.” Antes de la creación, antes del tiempo, antes de que existiera nada, Cristo ya existía. Él es la Palabra eterna hecha carne. En una abrumadora muestra de humildad, se convierte en niño. Un paquete de alegría que es accesible, vulnerable y totalmente entregado. Él viene al desorden de la vida humana y en un momento de oscuridad para que nada en nuestras vidas esté fuera de su alcance. Cada alegría, cada miedo, cada herida, cada esperanza, Él entra en todo ello. Durante esta temporada navideña, quiero invitar a cada uno de ustedes a permitir que la luz de Cristo brille en lo más profundo de sus vidas. Dejen que Él hable de su paz en sus corazones. Dejen que Él sane lo que está roto. Dejen que Él renueve su esperanza. El Niño en el pesebre es Dios con nosotros y viene por ustedes. Que el Niño Jesús bendiga sus hogares con paz, llene sus corazones de alegría y rodee a sus familias con su tierno amor. Que su luz guíe sus pasos en los días venideros y que su presencia sea siempre su fortaleza.
