Happy Advent!

As we continue our journey through this Advent season, today’s readings invite us into a deeper spirit of hope, repentance, and renewal. One continuous message is to prepare our hearts for the coming of the Lord.

The prophet Isaiah reminds us of the beautiful promise of a shoot rising from the stump of Jesse fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

What does a world transformed by the Spirit of the Lord look like? It would include a world of justice for the poor, peace among all creation, and a reign marked by wisdom, understanding, and fear of the Lord. This vision reminds us that God is always bringing new life out of what seems broken or cut down. Advent is a time to look at the “stumps” in our own lives such as places of discouragement or failure and trust that God can bring forth something new and holy.

Our strength is drawn from the Sacred Scripture, reminding us that they were written “for our instruction, so that by endurance and by the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.” Saint Paul also urges us to live in harmony and welcome one another as Christ has welcomed us. In a time when our world often feels divided, the Church is called to be a sign of unity, hospitality, and mercy.

And then we have the voice in the wilderness, Saint John the Baptist with a bold and urgent proclamation: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” Saint John the Baptist is a voice crying out for conversion. His messages awakens us and calls for fruit that reflects sincere repentance.A prepared heart is one that is humble, honest, and open to God’s transforming grace.

I hope you are inspired by this Advent season to open your hearts to the Lord who desires to make all things new as we walk in joyful expectation of the coming of our Lord.

Segundo Domingo de Adviento

¡Feliz Adviento!

Mientras continuamos nuestro camino a través de este tiempo de Adviento, las lecturas de hoy nos invitan a profundizar en el espíritu de esperanza, arrepentimiento y renovación. Un mensaje constante es el de preparar nuestros corazones para la venida del Señor.

El profeta Isaías nos recuerda la hermosa promesa de un renuevo que brota del tronco de Jesé, cumplida en Jesucristo. ¿Cómo es un mundo transformado por el Espíritu del Señor? Sería un mundo de justicia para los pobres, paz entre toda la creación y un reinado marcado por la sabiduría, la comprensión y el temor del Señor. Esta visión nos recuerda que Dios siempre está dando nueva vida a lo que parece roto o destruido. El Adviento es un tiempo para mirar los «tocones» de nuestras propias vidas, como los lugares de desánimo o fracaso, y confiar en que Dios puede traer algo nuevo y santo.

Nuestra fuerza proviene de las Sagradas Escrituras, que nos recuerdan que fueron escritas “para nuestra instrucción, a fin de que, por la paciencia y el consuelo que dan las Escrituras, mantengamos la esperanza.” San Pablo también nos exhorta a vivir en armonía y a acogernos unos a otros como Cristo nos ha acogido. En una época en la que nuestro mundo se siente a menudo dividido, la Iglesia está llamada a ser un signo de unidad, hospitalidad y misericordia.

Y luego tenemos la voz en el desierto, San Juan Bautista, con una proclamación audaz y urgente: “¡Arrepiéntanse, porque ya está cerca el Reino de los cielos!” San Juan Bautista es una voz que clama por la conversión. Sus mensajes nos despiertan y nos llaman a dar frutos que reflejen un arrepentimiento sincero. Un corazón preparado es aquel que es humilde, honesto y abierto a la gracia transformadora de Dios.

Espero que esta temporada de Adviento los inspire a abrir sus corazones al Señor, quien desea renovar todas las cosas mientras caminamos con alegre expectativa por la venida de nuestro Señor.
