Dear Friends,

Some people have asked me what I think about Fr. Connealy leaving and also about my situation. My answer is that I don’t so much see him as leaving as simply having been reassigned. He didn’t ask to leave. The bishop had a need and thought that Fr. Connealy would be the best person for the job and Fr. Connealy accepted this. This is the way it is with priests. The fact is that we priests are moved around quite a bit. Yes, it can be a little hard on the people in the parish. At a minimum, it means change and change is almost always a little hard. But change also means growth and new opportunities. I think God always gives us a new priest who will be good for us at that point in our lives. When you think about it, you have many priests over the course of your life, and each one is there for a purpose.

And so I will miss Fr. Connealy: he ran a good ship and he was very kind to me and my family, he is a friend. But I also look forward to Fr. Cruz and what he will bring to St. Joan of Arc. Since he was here before in my position, you know him better than I do. Now we will know him as Pastor.

As to my situation, I get to stay as Parochial Vicar and I am very happy about this. I hope they leave me here for a good long time, but only the Lord knows. I will take some vacation in June and then be back in time to welcome Fr. Cruz and start afresh under his leadership. I am looking forward to this and to many more years serving the people of this parish.

DEL VICARIO PARROQUIAL

Queridos amigos,

Algunas personas me han preguntado qué pienso sobre el P. Connealy saliendo y también sobre mi situación. Mi respuesta es que no lo veo tanto como si se fuera sino simplemente como si hubiera sido reasignado. No pidió irse. El obispo tenía una necesidad y pensó que el P. Connealy sería la mejor persona para el trabajo y el P. Connealy aceptó esto. Así es con los sacerdotes. El caso es que los sacerdotes nos movemos bastante. Sí, puede ser un poco difícil para la gente de la parroquia. Como mínimo, significa cambio y el cambio casi siempre es un poco difícil. Pero el cambio también significa crecimiento y nuevas oportunidades. Creo que Dios siempre nos da un nuevo sacerdote que será bueno para nosotros en ese momento de nuestras vidas. Cuando lo piensas, tienes muchos sacerdotes a lo largo de tu vida, y cada uno está ahí con un propósito.

Y así extrañaré al p. Connealy: dirigía un buen barco y fue muy amable conmigo y mi familia, es un amigo. Pero también espero con ansias al P. Cruz y lo que traerá a Santa Juana de Arco. Ya que estuvo aquí antes en mi posición, lo conoces mejor que yo. Ahora lo conoceremos como Pastor.

En cuanto a mi situación, puedo quedarme como Vicario Parroquial y estoy muy feliz por esto. Espero que me dejen aquí por un buen tiempo, pero solo el Señor lo sabe. Me tomaré unas vacaciones en junio y luego regresaré a tiempo para recibir al P. Cruz y comenzar de nuevo bajo su liderazgo. Espero con ansias este y muchos años más sirviendo a la gente de esta parroquia.
