Palm Sunday

Happy Palm Sunday!

Last weekend was a tough weekend. Bishop Dolan asked us to announce last weekend that he has given me a new assignment. He has appointed me the pastor of San Francisco de Asis Parish in Flagstaff, AZ. As many of you know, this was my first assignment as a priest. While I did not ask for a new assignment, I am grateful for Bishop Dolan’s confidence in me to lead the community in Flagstaff. I have loved my time here at St. Joan of Arc and am grateful to God for the four years here. Each of you has been such a blessing to me in my life and in my priesthood and I look forward to enjoying the next three months here with you. As you know, I also announced that Bishop Dolan has named Fr. Daniel Cruz the Parochial Administrator of St. Joan of Arc. Both of our assignments will be effective July 1, 2023. Many of you know Fr. Cruz from his time here a few years ago. He is very excited to return and be a part of this parish once again. Please keep us all in your prayers during this time of transition.

This week begins Holy Week. Please note the changes to the liturgical calendar. There will be no Monday evening Mass due to the Chrism Mass. There will be extended confessions Thursday and Friday morning from 9-11am. If the line is still going at 11am Fr. Vietor and I will both continue hearing confessions until everyone has had the opportunity to confess. On Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Supper will be at 6pm. Afterwards, the altar of repose with the Blessed Sacrament will be in Weidner Hall for adoration until midnight. On Good Friday our teens will lead a live Stations of the Cross at 1pm. At 3pm we will celebrate the Passion of the Lord in the Church. Please remember Friday is a day of fasting as well as abstinence. Fasting means to have one regular meal and two smaller meals that combined, are not greater than the one regular meal. Finally, on Saturday morning there will be a blessing of Easter food/baskets at 9:30am in the courtyard. All are welcome to join!

Have a great week and know of my prayers!

In Christ,

Fr. Connealy

Padre Connealy
