Happy Easter!

Jesus Christ is Risen indeed! I wish each of you a grace filled Easter during this beautiful spring time. The mystery of the empty tomb points us to the Risen Christ. I am always struck by the simplicity of the announcement of the angel, “Do not be afraid! I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified. He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said.” There is no explanation of what the Resurrection “looked” like, just the announcement that Jesus “is not here”. And yet, the Easter glory is one of those beautiful Christian paradoxes. Jesus is no longer in the tomb, it is empty! But now, He is more present to mankind than before.

In his humanity Jesus had experienced the restrictions of human nature. In His resurrection He does not experience the confinement that you and I do by our humanity. While the tomb is empty, the tabernacle still contains His presence. Now, the world overflows with the His Holy Spirit. The great joy of Easter is not that Jesus is gone, but that He is here! I pray that each of you know the grace of Jesus Christ and His closeness to us in the Resurrection.

At this year’s Easter Vigil we celebrated the Sacraments of Initiation for eight people. It was a great gift to be able to baptize, confirm, and offer the First Eucharist to these new Christians. Please keep them in your prayers as they begin this wonderful new journey in life. Baptism is one of the great gifts of the Easter season. Baptism filled the apostolic preaching and of course was Jesus’ final command to the apostles. Please pray for all those in the parish preparing for baptism and especially for families with infants who are bringing their children to be baptized this Easter season.

¡Felices Pascuas!

¡Jesucristo ha Resucitado en verdad! Les deseo a cada uno de ustedes una Pascua llena de gracia durante este hermoso tiempo de primavera. El misterio del sepulcro vacío nos señala a Cristo Resucitado. Siempre me llama la atención la sencillez del anuncio del ángel: “¡No tengáis miedo! Sé que buscas a Jesús el crucificado. No está aquí, porque ha resucitado tal como dijo. No hay explicación de cómo “se veía” la Resurrección, solo el anuncio de que Jesús “no está aquí”. Y, sin embargo, la gloria pascual es una de esas bellas paradojas cristianas. ¡Jesús ya no está en la tumba, está vacía! Pero ahora, Él está más presente para la humanidad que antes. En su humanidad, Jesús había experimentado las restricciones de la naturaleza humana. En Su resurrección Él no experimenta el encierro que tú y yo hacemos por nuestra humanidad. Mientras la tumba está vacía, el tabernáculo aún contiene Su presencia. Ahora, el mundo se desborda con Su Espíritu Santo. ¡La gran alegría de la Pascua no es que Jesús se haya ido, sino que Él está aquí! Ruego que cada uno de ustedes conozca la gracia de Jesucristo y Su cercanía con nosotros en la Resurrección

En la Vigilia Pascual de este año celebramos los Sacramentos de Iniciación para ocho personas. Fue un gran regalo poder bautizar, confirmar y ofrecer la Primera Eucaristía a estos nuevos cristianos. Por favor manténgalos en sus oraciones mientras comienzan este maravilloso nuevo viaje en la vida. El bautismo es uno de los grandes regalos del tiempo pascual. El bautismo llenó la predicación apostólica y, por supuesto, fue el mandato final de Jesús a los apóstoles. Oremos por todos aquellos en la parroquia que se preparan para el bautismo y especialmente por las familias con bebés que traerán a sus hijos para ser bautizados en esta temporada de Pascua.
