Happy Sunday!

This Monday the office will be closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. There will be morning confessions and Mass but no evening confessions or Mass. This is a big week for the parish. This week begins the painting of the church.

The crew will begin in the John Paul II Chapel and the Drexel Chapel. While painting is being done in Drexel, adoration will be moved to the John Paul II Chapel. Next week painting will begin in the main church. The workers will be in there Monday- Friday but it will be free on the weekend so we can have our regular weekend Masses in the Church. As I mentioned previously, all of the painting is expected to be done by Ash Wednesday. We are very excited about this phase of the project. After this we will have about ten months until the murals are completed.

Next Saturday, the 21st, Bishop Dolan will be coming to St. Joan of Arc at the 4:30pm Mass for the Dedication of the New Altar. This is a very important celebration and we are grateful for the presence of our new bishop as he comes to dedicate this altar. The Order of the Dedication of an Altar says this, “The altar by its very nature is dedicated to the one God, for the Eucharistic Sacrifice is offered to the one God. It is in this sense that the Church’s custom of dedicating altars to God in honor of the Saints must be understood. Saint Augustine expresses it well: ‘It is not to any of the Martyrs, but to the very God of the Martyrs, albeit in memory of the Martyrs, that we raise our altars.’” Bishop Dolan will come to dedicate our altar to the one True God so that the Eucharistic Sacrifice may take place in a worthy manner. As I mentioned previously, we are fortunate to have relics of St. Peter and St. Paul to be placed under the altar. A special thank you to Fr. Vietor for this generous gift! I also want to thank each and every one of you who have offered your gifts to make this altar a reality. I am grateful for your prayerful and financial support as we make our already beautiful church even more beautiful. Thank you for making this possible!

Feliz domingo!

Este lunes la oficina estará cerrada por el día de Martin Luther King Jr. Habrá confesiones matutinas y Misa, pero no confesiones vespertinas ni Misa. Esta es una gran semana para la parroquia. Esta semana comienza el pintado de la iglesia. El equipo comenzará en la Capilla Juan Pablo II y la Capilla Drexel. Mientras se pinta en Drexel, la adoración se trasladará a la Capilla Juan Pablo II. La próxima semana comenzará la pintura en la iglesia principal. Los trabajadores estarán allí de lunes a viernes, pero estará libre el fin de semana para que podamos tener nuestras Misas regulares de fin de semana en la Iglesia. Como mencioné anteriormente, se espera que toda la pintura esté lista para el Miércoles de Ceniza. Estamos muy entusiasmados con esta fase del proyecto. Después de esto tendremos unos diez meses hasta que los murales estén terminados.

El próximo sábado 21, el obispo Dolan vendrá a Santa Juana de Arco en la Misa de las 4:30 p. m. para la Dedicación del Nuevo Altar. Esta es una celebración muy importante y estamos agradecidos por la presencia de nuestro nuevo obispo cuando viene a dedicar este altar. El Orden de la Dedicación de un Altar dice esto: “El altar por su propia naturaleza está dedicado al único Dios, porque el Sacrificio Eucarístico se ofrece al único Dios. En este sentido debe entenderse la costumbre de la Iglesia de dedicar altares a Dios en honor de los Santos. San Agustín lo expresa bien: 'No es a ninguno de los mártires, sino al mismo Dios de los mártires, aunque sea en memoria de los mártires, que levantamos nuestros altares'”. El obispo Dolan vendrá a dedicar nuestro altar a la un solo Dios Verdadero para que el Sacrificio Eucarístico se realice de manera digna. Como mencioné anteriormente, somos afortunados de tener reliquias de San Pedro y San Pablo para colocar debajo del altar. Un agradecimiento especial al P. Vietor por este generoso regalo! También quiero agradecer a todos y cada uno de ustedes que han ofrecido sus dones para hacer realidad este altar. Estoy agradecido por su apoyo financiero y de oración mientras hacemos que nuestra ya hermosa iglesia sea aún más hermosa. ¡Gracias por hacer esto posible!
