Happy Sunday!

Gaudete! Rejoice! This Sunday the universal Church celebrates Gaudete Sunday, the Third Sunday of Advent. This name comes from the entrance antiphon for the Mass in which we hear, “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice. Indeed, the Lord is near.”

We rejoice in the Lord and that He is near. Half of Advent has passed, the rose candle on our Advent wreath has been lit, and we grow in anticipation of the coming Christmas festivities. As preparations for the holiday speed up, family comes to visit, children finish school, and much more, I invite you to slow down and take time to pray with the Church in the readings and prayers of the Mass. When we can enter spiritually into the celebrations of Christmas we can enjoy the external goodness of it more completely.

There are many reasons to rejoice this Sunday and one of them is that our new altar will be installed this week (I am writing this on Monday the 5th, so hopefully no hiccups occur between now and Sunday). I am very excited for this first part of the project to be completed. The crew will need about 4 days to complete installing the altar. This means, from Monday to Thursday daily Mass will be in the Drexel chapel. While Mass is going on in the Drexel chapel, adoration will be moved to the old adoration chapel, the John Paul II chapel. Immediately following Mass, the Blessed Sacrament in the monstrance will return to the altar in the Drexel chapel. With the new altar being installed, we will move the current altar to the Drexel chapel and adoration will occur on this altar from now on. I appreciate your patience with so many moving parts in these days. It will be a good practice for us when the Church gets a fresh coat of paint in the New Year. That process will begin January 16th and will be completed by Ash Wednesday. I will provide more details on that as we get closer.

Please keep this project in your prayers as things continue to progress. I am very excited that we will be able to have a new altar in time for Christmas. Know of my prayers for each of you and your loved ones during this Advent season.

3ER DOMINGO DE ADVIENTO

¡Feliz domingo!

Gaudete! ¡Alegrarse! Este domingo, la Iglesia universal celebra el Domingo de Gaudete, el Tercer Domingo de Adviento. Este nombre proviene de la antífona de entrada de la Misa en la que escuchamos: “Alégrate siempre en el Señor; de nuevo digo, regocíjate. Ciertamente, el Señor está cerca”. Nos regocijamos en el Señor y que Él está cerca. Ha pasado la mitad del Adviento, se ha encendido la vela rosa de nuestra corona de Adviento y crecemos a la espera de las próximas festividades navideñas. A medida que se aceleran los preparativos para las vacaciones, la familia viene de visita, los niños terminan la escuela y mucho más, los invito a reducir la velocidad y tomar tiempo para orar con la Iglesia en las lecturas y oraciones de la Misa. Cuando podamos entrar espiritualmente en las celebraciones de la Navidad, podemos disfrutar de la bondad externa de la misma más completamente.

Hay muchas razones para alegrarnos este domingo y una de ellas es que nuestro nuevo altar será instalado esta semana (estoy escribiendo esto el lunes 5, así que espero que no haya contratiempos de aquí al domingo). Estoy muy emocionado de que se complete esta primera parte del proyecto. El equipo necesitará alrededor de 4 días para completar la instalación del altar. Esto significa que, de lunes a jueves, la misa diaria será en la capilla de Drexel. Mientras se desarrolla la misa en la capilla de Drexel, la adoración se trasladará a la antigua capilla de adoración, la capilla de Juan Pablo II. Inmediatamente después de la Misa, el Santísimo Sacramento en la custodia regresará al altar en la capilla de Drexel. Con la instalación del nuevo altar, moveremos el altar actual a la capilla Drexel y la adoración ocurrirá en este altar de ahora en adelante. Agradezco su paciencia con tantas piezas móviles en estos días. Será una buena práctica para nosotros cuando la Iglesia reciba una nueva capa de pintura en el Año Nuevo. Ese proceso comenzará el 16 de enero y se completará el Miércoles de Ceniza. Proporcionaré más detalles sobre eso a medida que nos acerquemos.
