Porters of St. Joseph

Happy Sunday!

I love weeks like this week which are jam packed full of excellent feast days. Tomorrow, the 22nd, the Church celebrates the Queenship of Mary. On Tuesday, the 23rd, we observe the memorial of St. Rose of Lima. Wednesday, the 24th, we celebrate the feast of St. Bartholomew the Apostle. On Thursday, the 25th, we celebrate the memorial of St. Louis. We get a wide mix as we celebrate the Blessed mother, then the first saint of the Americas, followed by one of the 12 Apostles, and finishing with the king, St. Louis.

I am especially fond of the Office of Readings for St. Louis which includes a spiritual testament he wrote to his son. St. Louis was a man who did not want to hide the truth of life from his son. He writes, “ Of all the particulars he could share with his son, he begins with the most basic precept, to put the Lord God first above all things. This is a good reminder for each of us to make sure we always give all of our heart and strength to loving the One who created us and brought us into being so that we can share eternal life with Him. I would like to invite the fathers of our parish to read this reading. It can be found online by searching for “From a spiritual testament to his son by St. Louis.”

We are excited to announce that we will be beginning a new ministry for men in the parish called Porters of St. Joseph. This ministry is already active at many parishes around the diocese. We will invite men of the parish to join this ministry which will provide security during liturgies as well as growth in prayer for the men involved. Men who join this group will assist me in keeping the Blessed Sacrament safe as well as the people of our wonderful parish. They will also be trained in “SelfDefense, De-Escalation, Critical Incident Response & Church Safety Planning”. We will have registration at the beginning of September and a training at the beginning of October. To our men, please prayerfully consider joining this ministry and aiding in the spiritual growth and protection of St. Joan of Arc parish.

Have a great week and know of my prayers.

¡Feliz domingo!

P Connealy
