Celebrating the Easter Season

Hello,

We are now in the season of Easter and will be for several weeks. Then comes the Ascension and Pentecost and then after that Trinity Sunday and Corpus Christi. There are many great celebrations ahead of us this year before summer settles in. The liturgical year is just so rich. I encourage you to look ahead at your calendars and maybe plan something nice for those days. Just as at Easter, the family celebrations that go along with the liturgical celebrations add to our experience of God’s goodness to us. But for now it is Easter.

How do we continue to celebrate Easter during these weeks? I am reminded of the story of the disciples who were on the road to Emmaus and saw Jesus in the breaking of the bread. This is clearly a Eucharistic reference. Its implication is that we can see the risen Lord in the celebration of the Eucharist. We do have to be attentive. We do have to look closely. But He is there to be seen for those who look rightly. This means that we also have to look in faith. And then we will see Him. What a tremendous gift this is! The risen Lord is there to be seen by us week after week. So how do we celebrate Easter? We participate worthily in the holy sacrifice of the Mass.

I remember for many years having young children at Mass. My wife would take them out and walk around with them, listening to the service over the loudspeaker if there was one. Sometimes she even had to buckle them in their car-seats until they settled down, or even drive them home and leave the rest of the kids for me. The point is that participating well in Mass is not always easy. We each have our own issues. We do our best. But thanks be to God for His grace in that He comes to meet us. If we make an effort, then He meets our effort. And here in Easter especially, He shows us Himself.

God bless,

Celebrando la temporada de Semana Santa

Hola,
