Happy Divine Mercy Sunday

As we complete the Octave of Easter the Church invites us to dive into the great mystery of God’s unfathomable mercy. It was St. John Paul II who said, “Where, if not in the Divine Mercy, can the world find refuge and the light of hope?” We too are aware of the great storms of our society and world. There is a constant tension in the world in the midst of political instabilities, violence, hatred, and much more. And yet, it is in the Divine Mercy that we find refuge and hope. We seek protection under the great goodness of God who can take on the sinfulness of mankind and offer healing and forgiveness.

Pope Benedict XVI remarked, “How many people also in our time are in search of God, in search of Jesus and of his Church, in search of divine mercy, and are waiting for a ‘sign’ that will touch their minds and their hearts! Today, as then, the Evangelist reminds us that the only ‘sign’ is Jesus raised on the cross: Jesus who died and rose is the absolutely sufficient sign. Through him we can understand the truth about life and obtain salvation.” The Divine Mercy Novena began on Good Friday as we stood at the foot of the cross. Today, we complete the Divine Mercy novena as we bask in the glory of the Resurrection. I pray that for each of you the Divine Mercy devotion may be one which bears great fruit in your homes. I pray that families will turn to the Divine Mercy in times of struggle, argument, and discipline. May we rely on God’s never failing mercy for us and allow it to grow in our own lives, so that all those whom we meet will know that we live are disciples of the crucified and risen Christ.

May God bless you all!

In Christ,

Padre Connealy
