Lent: The Campaign of Christian Service

02-21-2021Pastor's LetterFr. Dan Connealy

Happy Sunday!

We have begun the great season of Lent, the “campaign of Christian service”, as the Church so wonderfully calls it. It is a “campaign of Christian service” because in these 40 days we live even more intentionally the vocation of what it means to be Christian. That is, we live devoted to fasting, prayer, and almsgiving. Fasting so that our bodies may be deprived for a little while of nourishment or delicacy so that we may yearn more for Jesus Christ alone. Prayer, so that we can enter more deeply into our relationship with the living God, which we hope to share forever in Heaven. Almsgiving, because no one is a Christian alone. The plight of our brothers and sisters is our plight as well, and so we offer alms in various ways during Lent to unite ourselves more closely to all Christians.

We have begun the Charity and Development Appeal for 2021. Thank you for supporting the many good works in the Diocese of Phoenix. Some of these benefit different charitable organizations, including many pro-life groups, food kitchens, and support of the homeless. It also benefits the education of seminarians, our future priests. Please go online and make a gift today at give.dphx.org. You can also mail in your pledge card that is found in the Church, or drop it off at the parish office. Thank you for your support!

This Lent Fr. Vietor will be offering a series of reflections on the book of Exodus. The series will be called “YOUR LENTEN EXODUS” and it will be presented in video format, available on our parish website and parish social media. Please check out these wonderful reflections from our new priest!

I pray that everyone has a great Lent, filled with the Holy Spirit during this campaign of Christian service.

In Christ,
Fr. Connealy

¡Feliz domingo!

P. Connealy
