A Weekly Music Class for All Children 6-12 to begin September 26

St. Joan of Arc will be offering a unique music class for all interested children of the parish, ages 6-12. The aim of this music class will be the teaching of music through the child's primary instrument- the voice. Instruction will cover the development of a beautiful singing tone, the ability to sight-sing by means of solfège (Do, re, mi, fa, etc), melodic dictation, rhythm and rhythmic dictation, modern notation and theory as well as Gregorian Chant and its notation and theory. The instruction for this course will be the WARD METHOD, a method developed for teaching music in Catholic schools almost a century ago, but perfect in its approach for the modern child with typically short attention spans as it moves from topic to topic at a good pace, keeping the child involved and alert, and awakening the child's natural creativity while at the same time offering a solid and complete musical education that will stay with the child for life

It is hoped that from this class a child chorister program will be launched in the Fall of 2020. The Ward Class will give the necessary basics that interested children will need to go on and be part of the chorister program which will be by invitation after completing this course.

Registration for the class will begin on Sunday, September 8, in Santa Maria at which time there will be a short presentation about the class and time for questions. After that, registration forms can be picked up and delivered to the parish office until September 20. For more information please call Jeffrey Morse 602-867-9171 Ext 326 or email at jmorse@stjoanofarc.com.
