Allow me to introduce myself

04-07-2019Pastor's LetterFr. Dan Connealy

Dear Friends in Christ,

It is a great joy for me to introduce myself to all of you. My name is Father Dan Connealy and for the past three years I have served as a priest in Flagstaff, Arizona at San Francisco de Asis parish and Holy Trinity Catholic Newman Center on the campus of NAU. I am very grateful and humbled that Bishop Olmsted has appointed me Parochial Administrator of this wonderful parish.

I was born and raised in Phoenix. I am the 6th of 8 children, three of my brothers and sisters still live here in the Valley. Growing up at Most Holy Trinity parish, I attended elementary school there through 8th grade. I then attended Shadow Mountain for high school where I played baseball, basketball, and swimming. After graduating I went to the University of Pittsburgh on a swimming scholarship. It was in Pittsburgh that I first began to seriously discern a call to the priesthood. The Newman Center there had a perpetual adoration chapel which I was able to stop in at before going to swim practice. In the silence there I felt the Lord's continued invitation to consider the priesthood. After two years in Pittsburgh I left to enter the seminary.

I spent the first three years of seminary at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, OH doing my philosophy studies as I finished my degree. In 2012 I was sent to the North American College in Rome to do theology studies. After four very blessed years there I returned home to Phoenix and was ordained a priest on June 11, 2016. Bishop Olmsted assigned me to San Francisco de Asis parish and Holy Trinity Catholic Newman Center in Flagstaff where I very happily spent my first two years of priesthood. This past year I was assigned entirely to the Newman Center and enjoyed very much walking with college students in their journeys of faith.

In my free time I love reading, running, golfing, and in general being outdoors. Some of my favorite authors are Joseph Ratzinger, Charlotte Bronte, Evelyn Waugh, and Erasmo Leiva-Merikakis. I, like many who grew up in the heat, have a special place in my heart for ice cream. Being a creature of habit, I stick to flavors with chocolate, peanut butter, cookie dough, and more chocolate.

I'm very excited to come to St. Joan of Arc, a parish very close to where I grew up. I am grateful to Bishop Olmsted for this appointment. Fr. Kline was the priest who called me to inform me I was accepted to seminary and so it's very humbling to be following him. I look forward to meeting you all and becoming a part of this wonderful community. Know of my prayers and thank you for yours!

In Christ,
Fr.

P. Dan Connealy
