40 Days for Life (September 26 to November 6)

Beloved Brothers and Sisters,

We have begun the 40 Days for Life campaign across many parts of the world. During this time we unite with prayer, fasting, constant vigil and community outreach initiatives. The mission directs our hearts and minds to God in prayer to ask Him to hear us and heal us. Our peaceful and prayerful presence intersect where innocent children are viciously removed from their mother's womb, outside the abortion facility. This campaign is committed to keep a constant vigil with non-stop, round-the-clock prayer outside a single abortion facility in our community.

So far this visible and public commitment to prayer and fasting saved 14,643 lives from abortion, 177 abortion workers have quit their jobs and 96 abortion facilities have closed! As long as abortion facilities continue to operate, our prayers and fasting must continue!

Sadly, I have not always been passionately pro-life. In fact, it wasn't until my freshman year of college in 2004 when I fully got a glimpse of what happens in the evils of abortion. The word alone caused me to be uncomfortable and wonder about the circumstances leading up to this tragic decision. As a biology major I was aware of the miracle of life which began at fertilization. However, knowing the truth about human biology I remained silent and never attempted to defend a precious child in the womb. The lie of "my body, my choice" and "abortion is a women's issue and a women's issue alone" seemed to be the trend everywhere. Until an amazing woman named Katherine Nikas came to the ASU Polytechnic Campus to start a Pro-Life Club. She gave me a sign, a signup sheet and the courage to go out and invite students to the club. After a few encounters with supportive people, my afternoon ended with two pro-choice women. The end of this encounter disappointed me because they provided reasons why they were pro-choice and showed very little remorse. I left disturbed but I renewed my commitment to respect women and pray for a holy marriage where I would never abandon my future wife and children at an abortion facility. For this reason, it was through the hopeful context of marriage that shaped the truthfulness of the culture of life. In the end, it took the feminine genius of Katherine to allow me to man up and defend the unborn child with prayer, fasting, courage in being active in the pro-life movement and daring to be counter cultural.

In the seminary, we often prayed at one of the largest abortion facilities in Colorado. As a band of brothers, we did not fear praying for the unborn and their mothers. We even brought Jesus for a Eucharistic procession around the abortion facility. More importantly, during this 40 Days for Life in Phoenix, I'm committed to praying and fasting in front of a Phoenix abortion facility (Family Planning Associates, 1331 North 7th Street #225 Phoenix, Arizona). I'll be there on Mondays from 10AM-12PM and Fridays from 1PM-3PM during the campaign. As a church family, I invite you to join me on the frontlines at the abortion facility anytime from 6AM-6PM. Do not be afraid because the Lord and Our Lady will be with us too! Please consider joining us and continue to pray for an end to abortion! It's possible with your prayers!

God bless you!

continuar!

Tristemente, no siempre he sido apasionadamente pro-vida.

Padre Daniel Cruz
