Merry Christmas!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Four weeks ago, we began Advent, pondering the end of the world and the last things. But Advent ends with a beginning! It is the beginning of the Kingdom of God that has been established here on earth by the one whom God has sent to us as our Messiah, Christ Jesus, the Son of God whose nativity we celebrate on this glorious day!

It goes without saying that I am exceedingly grateful for the generous stewardship of our parishioners of St. Joan of Arc. Thank you! You absolutely amaze me. It is such a joy to be your pastor and see all the good you accomplish!

In three days, our parish will have celebrated 11 masses. That’s a lot of praying! I want to thank my brother priests Fr. Daniel Cruz and Fr. John Parks as well as Deacon Peter and Deacon Mark for their hard work not just this weekend but through the Advent season and beyond. Part of that work includes hearing hundreds of confessions to prepare our parishioners for our Christmas celebrations. As usual, they have gone above and beyond the call of duty.

I thank our office staff that work so hard behind the scenes to ensure all will be well. They make us priests look very good. Our music director, Brina Gerstenberger, has lead an army of musicians who have led our sung prayer this weekend (as they do so well every weekend!). This requires many of our musicians to slip away from their families to practice, so we thank their families as well!

In a special way, I want to thank our liturgical coordinator Jean Green. Jean, with her small but dedicated group, works hard to make our church look even more beautiful throughout the year. Christmas is one of the most labor-intensive liturgical solemnities with our large nativity scene and the hosts of poinsettias and other accouterments of the season. I also thank all of our liturgical ministers--our lectors, our ushers, our many servers and our Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. Again, I am grateful.

I want to welcome any newcomers at our parish this weekend. If you are new to the area or have been away from the Church for a while, I am glad you are here! Included in this bulletin are many opportunities to make our parish your spiritual home. If you have questions about our parish, do not hesitate to call or email us. We are ready to serve alongside you to build up the Kingdom of God!

I am hopeful that we will have a quiet week this week. If you are traveling this week, do so safely. Make sure to include Christ in your week. During Christmas, praying the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary are a wonderful way to pass the time as your travel in the car. Not only do you commune with Jesus through Mary but things can be mostly quiet for 15 minutes! Win-win!

May God bless us this Christmas Season,

Fr. Don Kline, V.F.

¡Feliz Navidad!

Queridos hermanos y hermanas:

Padre Don Kline,
VF Pastor
