Hope in Christ

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

What does it mean to have hope in Christ? Pope Francis recently said, "The Church offers all the possibility to walk along the path of holiness, which is the path of the Christian: it makes us meet Jesus in the Sacraments, especially in Confession, in the Eucharist, it communicates to us the Word of God, it makes us live in charity, in the love of God to all."

Pope Francis went on to say that we are not to be afraid of holiness, of letting oneself be loved by God. To be holy, he said, does not require one to do extraordinary things, but in letting God act.

"Let us not lose hope in holiness, let us all walk along this path. Do we want to be saints? All of us? The Lord awaits us with open arms. Let us live our faith with joy and let ourselves be loved by the Lord."

When we open our hearts and allow ourselves to be loved by Our Lord we become more open to life and to love. Yes, we are capable of sins against human life such as abortion, assisted suicide and contraception. But we are not beyond Our Lord's mercy. It is important for us to know and share with others that Christ's forgiveness is offered even to those who have taken another person's life, if they are truly repentant of that act.

When we open our hearts to life in Christ and His love, we grow stronger in our ability to be more loving and more merciful. With hope in Christ we are able to be witness to the Gospel of Life and to bring others to Christ. With faith in Christ we are able to share the truth about the preciousness of human life. In Christ we show love and mercy, especially with those who have been involved in abortion. As brothers and sister and part of the Catholic Church we are called to bring healing to the world. We can be vessels of mercy by reminding our world of the beauty of human life and God's unfailing mercy.

Always hope in Christ! Life in Christ enables us to open our hearts and to witness the sacredness of human life. Be a witness in the Respect Life Movement. Let us build a culture of life. Maybe you are called to help parents welcome their unborn child as a miracle of God's creation. Perhaps you could visit the elderly, the homebound or those in hospitals. There are always those who are sick and suffering who are in need of another person's presence. Let us pray and fast for life, for our elected officials, for those in education, and for our parishes.

God Bless, Fr. Kline
