The Pearl of Great Price

Happy Sunday!

A big thanks to all those who have so generously helped us on our goal to meet the matching gift we presented last weekend. It is so gratifying to see so many supporting the parish in this marvelous way. I am grateful to God for the family who offered this gift and to all those who have responded. If you haven’t heard yet, a family from outside of St. Joan of Arc has offered us $27,060 as a matching gift. All you have to do is begin giving a recurring gift online, or if you already offer a recurring gift, increase it by any amount and the whole amount will be matched. All gifts given through August will go towards the match. Thank you so much!

In the Gospel this Sunday we hear about the pearl of great price and the treasure buried in a field. Jesus tells his disciples that to find the Kingdom of heaven is like finding one of these objects of great value. It is so consuming and precious that it is worth more than everything one owns. For us as Christians, the more we come to see the great beauty of God, the more we are willing to leave everything else behind. Pope Benedict XVI reminds us of this when he writes, “The saint is the person who is so fascinated by the beauty of God and by his perfect truth as to be progressively transformed by it.” (October 23, 2005) To see God’s beauty and stand in awe is not enough, we must also allow ourselves to be transformed by it, leaving everything behind and following the one who is Love.

I am happy to tell you that Bishop Olmsted has officially named me the pastor here at St. Joan of Arc. I am grateful for the Bishop’s confidence in me and look forward to continuing to serve you. Thank you again for all the wonderful generosity you have shown in our goal to reach this matching gift. I am so grateful for each of you. Know of my prayers.

Christ’s peace,

¡Feliz Domingo!

Padre Connealy
